The goal of the Fire Protection Benchmark is to bring Molokai's fire protection resources to adequate standards. In order to fulfill this mission, Maui County Fire Department has leveraged funding to purchase a new fire truck and new equipment for wildfire protection. Planning, design, and construction are underway for a new fire station in Kaunakakai.

Project Leader:
Maui County Fire Department

Current Activities:
Planning for new fire station

Location:
Entire island of Molokai

Reason for Need

Molokai's current fire station is inadequate in size and floods multiple times every year. Dispatch, emergency management, and training/education facilities do not currently exist. In addition, wildfire protection is not in compliance with national standards.

EC Support

As a designated EC project, the Fire Protection Benchmark has been able to use this distinction to leverage significant funding from USDA and other sources to obtain a new fire truck and equipment to fight wild fires.
