This project seeks to rehabilitate the Kalani'anaole Hall to a state of pre-deterioration use. Its rehabilitation will assure its viability to service the native Hawaiian community as it was originally meant to be. Kalanianaole Hall is not only recognized locally for its importance, but in 2003, the State of Hawaii recognized the Hall in the State Register of Historic Places.

Reason for Need
The Hall has a significant history in our society and is fitting an appropriate rehabilitation and care so that it could function as it was meant to be, a meeting place and refuge for the Hawaiian community in Moloka`i. With rehabilitation of the hall, the Halau can reestablish its identity and continue its history of meeting in the famous landmark. Molokai is very unique in that there are no funeral homes on the island, burial services and associated services are normally held in churches or their social hall. In the past, families have used Kalani`anaole Hall to hold overnight vigils and `ohana viewing of loved ones who have passed on. The central location of the hall along with its independent site and unlimited parking is essential and is suitable for this very basic need.
EC Support
Friends of Kalanianaole Hall has sought assistance from the Molokai Enterprise Community and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to make the restoration of this historic gathering place possible.
