Moloka'i Livestock Cooperative seeks to provide slaughtering and processing services by managing its slaughter facility.

Project Leader:
Moloka'i Livestock Cooperative

Current Activities:
Obtaining USDA Federal Certification to process meat for retail on Molokai.

Location:
Ho'olehua, Moloka'i

Reason for Need

There is no certified slaughterhouse for processing livestock on Moloka'i. Commercial ranchers ship their animals off island, which is not cost effective. The many Molokai families who raise livestock for subsistence slaughter their animals at home, which does not meet Federal and State health standards. Currently, all meats sold in our local stores are purchased from off island markets. A certified slaughterhouse will increase opportunities to meet local and off island market demands.
